It is a well known plant. It is a very common vegetable used around India and also many other preparations like salad, and pickle etc. There are different verities cultivated as well as grow all over India.
The seeds contain a volatile oil while the roots and seeds contain stable oil.
Medicinal Properties of Radish
Guna – Laghu (Light to digest)
Rasa (taste) – Katu (pungent), Tikta (bitter)
Vipaka – Katu (undergoes pungent taste conversion after digestion)
Veerya – Ushna (hot potency)
Effect on Tridosha – Balances all the three Doshas.
Varieties of Radish
There are 2 types of radish small (tender) and big variety
Small variety is bitter in taste, hot in nature, it improves the taste, useful in anorexia, digestive, light to digest and it balance all the three dosha. It is indicated in fever, throat disorders, eye disorders, act as appetizer, abdominal pain, cough and cold and wounds and ulcers.
Big variety is pungent and sweet in taste, it imbalances all three doshas, dry, hot and causing buring senation, heavy to digest. When it is processed with oil it balance all three doshas.
Dry radish is light to digest, very useful in swelling and inflammatory conditions, toxic condition and balance all the three doshas.
Health Benefits of Radish (Mooli)
Grind 3-6 seeds and give this to the patient with warm water 2-3 times a day. It cleans nad clear the throat.
Boil the radish juice in sesame oil and cook till oil remains and put 2 drops of it in both ears.
Take 3 gm extract of radish with 20 gm honey. Dip cotton in this solution and place in ear it controls the ear leakage.
Give 500 mg to 2 gms extract of radish with 1 teaspoonful honey, 2-3 times a day. It gives relief in asthma.
It must be taken after meals it helps to digest the food.
Give soft and tender radish to be eaten with sugar. Or give 10 ml juice mixed with sugar.
Give 25 ml radish juice with pinch amount of salt and powder of 2-3 black pepper, 2-3 times a day. It is beneficial in curing abdominal pain.
Grind its fresh leaves with water and then boil. Filter the solution and give this to patient 2-3 times a day.
Cook radish as vegetable and give this to patient. It cures all type of jaundice nad anaemia.
Extract the juice of radish mix 6 grams of ghee in it and give it to the patient it helps in curing the bleeding piles.
If there is less amount of urine formation, give 20-40 ml of radish juice 2-3 times a day.
Give 10-20 ml juice of its leaves with 1 gram kalmishora mixed in it. It cleans the urine.
It also helps in renal pain.
Uses of radish help in removing the renal stone, seeds of radish 1-2 grams 3-4 times a day. It dissolves the stones in bladder.
Give 3 grams powder of its seeds. It clears the obstruction in menstrual cycle.
Grind the seeds in lemon juice and apply on the affected area.
