The Ulcers can develop in many parts of the body and it can also be present on the lining of stomach and associated with many symptoms.

Stomach ulcers – They are the sores that develop with time in the lining of the stomach or duodenum or the first part of the small intestine.

Other names-  Peptic ulcer, gastric ulcers, or duodenal ulcers.

  • According to Ayurveda, Peptic ulcer comes under the Grahni Dosha. Peptic ulcer comes under the Grahni disorder. Common cause of this is deranged Agni. Doshik involvement in this is the Pitta and Vata doshas.

Possible causes of ulcers –

  • An infection with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacteria
  • Use of non steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (NSAIDS), such as ibuprofen or aspirin for long duration of time.
  • Stress and spicy and junk food may cause ulcer or may make them worse by increasing acid production in the stomach.

Some Natural Remedies for stomach ulcers

Some effective remedies can help to relieve from symptoms associated with the ulcers.

  1. Probiotics

Yogurts is a good choice because it contains probiotics which help to restore balance the bacteria in the digestive tract.

What are Probiotics?

They are the living organisms that help to restore balance to the bacteria in the digestive tract i.e. good for the gut health. So, it helps in treating ulcers.

It may reduce the amount of bacteria present, speed up the healing process, and may improve some symptoms but they cannot kill H. pylori bacteria.

Probiotics can be found in the following sources-

  • Yogurt
  • Fermented foods
  • Probiotic supplements

Method of use-

  • Take Probiotic before meals as it contains good bacteria that are beneficial for your gut health.
  1. Shunthi or Ginger

Ginger is having gastro protective effects. It ca be used in other stomach and digestive conditions, such as bloating,constipation and gastritis.

Shunti or ginger can help with gastric ulcers caused by H. pylori bacteria. Eating ginger may also prevent ulcers caused by medication.

Method of use- 

  • Take ½ table spoon of dried ginger powder and take it before meals twice a day.
  • Try ginger tea by boiling shreds of ginger drink it once or twice daily.
  1. Colorful fruits

Flavanoids are the compound present in many fruits. These compounds can help to reduce stomach ulcers.

They protect the stomach lining from developing ulcers by increasing stomach mucus, which further inhibits the growth of H. pylori.

Some examples of Flavonoids rich fruits are-

  • Apples
  • Blueberries
  • Cherries
  • Lemons
  • Oranges
  • Nuts etc.
  1. Plantain bananas

Plantains are a type of banana suggests that unripe plantains may have a positive effect on peptic ulcers.

Unripe plantains contain a flavonoid called leucocyanidin. It also increases the amount of mucus in the stomach. Thus, it may also reduce acidity, which can help prevent and relieve symptoms of ulcers.

Method of use-

Peel bananas and cut them in slices then dry them in sun or oven or food dehydrator, when dried Grind them in fine powder.

Mix 2tablespoons of powder in 1tsf of honey and consume it. It is very effective in case of stomach ulcers.

  1. Honey

The Manuka variety of honey has antimicrobial properties that may be useful in treating ulcers.

This honey has antimicrobial effects against H. pylori. So it may be useful in treating stomach ulcers.

Method of use-

  • Take 1tsf of honey mix it with luke warm water and drink it twice a day.
  1. Turmeric

It is a famous spice and it contains a compound called curcumin. It possesses anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities that may help prevent stomach ulcers.

Method of use-

  • Take 1glass of milk and add 2g powder ( of dried root of turmeric) in it. Drink this milk once a day. It helps in relieving stomach ulcers.
  • Add turmeric to your daily meals for flavor, color and getting  great benefits.
  1. Chamomile

Some people use chamomile flowers and chamomile teas to treat minor anxiety, intestinal spasms, and inflammation.

Chamomile extracts may also have anti-ulcer properties

  • Intake of chamomile tea twice daily, helps to inhibit stomach ulcers and reduces the healing time.
  1. Garlic or Rasona

It is popular in many parts of the world for adding flavor to food. It has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, which make it helpful in fighting infection.

Rasona or garlic could helps to prevent the development of ulcers and help speed up the healing process. It may also help prevent the growth of H. pylori.

Method of Use-

  • Eat two cloves of garlic with a meal, twice a day, can have anti-bacterial effects against H. pylori.
  • Take 4cloves of garlic and boil them in 1cup of milk also add 4cups of water and when only milk remains consume this liquid for relieving of gastric ailments.
  1. Yashtimadhu or Licorice

Licorice is used as a traditional medications srom ancient period of time. Eating a dried licorice root can help to cure and prevent ulcers.

Method of use- 

  • Take half spoon of Yashtimadhu powder after meals twice a day.
  1. Ghritkumari or Aloe vera

Ghritkumari is widely used plant-based gel that is found in many lotions, cosmetics, and foods products. It possesses analgesic, anti-inflammatory, & immuno-modulator properties. Thus, it helps in treating stomach ulcers.

Method of use- 

  • Make half a cup of fresh juice of Aloe vera, consume it once or twice daily as it reduces inflammation of the colon and stomach lining.

11. Pomegranate

It helps in reducing inflammation of the colon and stomach lining as it possesses anti-inflammatory & antioxidant properties. The regular use of this herb is beneficial for relieving ulcer.

Method of use-

  • Make fresh juice of pomegranate & drink 30 to 50ml once or twice a day on a regular basis.
  • Peel off the skin of pomegranate fruit. Cut it into small pieces & boil in two cups of water until remaining half cup. Strain the mixture with the help of a sieve and drink it.
