Cure your Cataract Naturally with Ayurveda

Ayurvedic treatment for cataract

In a normal eye, light passes through the transparent lens and received by the retina. The lens should be clear to receive a sharp image. But if the lens is cloudy then the image received by the retina will be blurry or distorted and the vision will also be blurry. The visual extent depends upon the degree of cloudiness of the lens.

What is a Cataract?

A cataract is a dense and cloudy area that forms in the eye lens. A cataract begins when there is a formation of clumps of proteins that prevent the lens from sending clear images to the retina. The retina converts the light that comes through the lens into signals. These signals are sent to the optic nerve which carries them to the brain.

It is the most common cause of vision loss in people who are above the age of 40 and it also leads to blindness. It develops with age in older people and interferes with the vision. It may occur in both eyes but not at the same time. This clouded vision makes them more difficult to read, drive a car (especially at night) or see the face expression, etc.

Types of Cataracts include:

A subcapsular cataract:  It usually occurs at the back of the lens in those people who are suffering from diabetes or those taking high doses of steroid medications. These are at higher risk of developing this type of cataract.

A nuclear cataract: This type of cataract forms deep in the nucleus of the lens and is commonly associated with aging.

A cortical cataract: It is characterized by white and wedge-like opacities that start in the periphery of the lens. It occurs in the cortex, which is the part of the lens that surrounds the nucleus.

What Causes Cataracts?

Most cataracts develop with the age or an injury that changes the tissue which makes up your eye’s lens. Various genetic disorders that cause several health problems can increase the risk of having cataracts. It can also be caused by any eye-related conditions like past eye surgery or medical conditions such as diabetes.

There are several other causes of cataracts include:

Overproduction of oxidants or any oxidative change that are chemically altered due to normal daily life

  • Smoking
  • Ultraviolet radiations
  • Prolonged use of steroids and other medications
  • Any trauma or injury in the eye
  • Radiation therapy
  • Hypertension
  • Obesity
  • Statin medications used to reduce cholesterol
  • Hormone replacement therapy
  • Excessive alcohol consumption
  • High myopia

What are the Symptoms of Cataract?

Firstly, there is the cloudiness in vision which is caused by cataract. Initially, it may affect only a small part of the eye lens and the person is unaware of any vision loss. As the condition increases it clouds more part of the lens and distorts the light passing through it which may lead to the noticeable symptoms.

Other common symptoms of cataracts include:

  1. Blurring of vision
  2. Seeing colors as faded
  3. Increased difficulty in seeing at night
  4. Increased sensitivity to glare and light
  5. Double vision in the affected eye
  6. Halos surrounding lights
  7. A need for frequent changes in prescription glasses
  8. Need bright light for reading and other activities
  9. Frequent changes in eyeglass or contact lens
  10. Fading or yellowing of colors

What are the Risk Factors for Cataract?

Various factors that increase the risk of cataracts include:

  • Increasing age
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes mellitus and High blood pressure
  • Excessive smoking and alcohol consumption
  • Excessive exposure to sunlight

Ayurvedic Treatment For Endometriosis

What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis happens when the tissue that usually lines inside the uterus of a woman grows outside it. This lining of the uterus is called the endometrium. This abnormal growth is benign (not cancerous) but they can still cause problems.

This tissue acts like regular uterine tissue during the menstrual cycle. It will bleed at the end of the menstrual cycle and nowhere to go so it becomes trapped in the pelvis. The areas surrounded by it may become inflamed or swollen because of the hormonal changes in the body. There will be a formation of scar tissue and lesions. It commonly involves ovaries, fallopian tubes, and the tissue lining your pelvis(rare).

The tissue trapped in your pelvis can cause irritation and severe pain during periods.

Types of Endometriosis

There are three main types of endometriosis, based on the location:

  1. Superficial peritoneal lesion: It is the most common lesion on the peritoneum, a thin film that lines the pelvic cavity.
  2. Endometrioma: It is a dark fluid-filled cyst, also called chocolate cysts which are formed deep in the ovaries. These cysts can damage healthy tissues and does not respond to the treatment.
  3. Deeply infiltrating endometriosis: This type of cyst develops under the peritoneum and involves uterus, bowels, or bladder. It is a rare type that affects about 1% to 5% of women with endometriosis.

What causes Endometriosis?

  • Although the exact cause of endometriosis is not certain there are several theories regarding the cause, although no one theory has been scientifically proven.
  • One of the oldest theories is retrograde menstruation in which menstrual blood containing endometrial cells flows back through the fallopian tubes into the pelvic cavity instead of out of the body. These cells get stick to the pelvic walls and surfaces of pelvic organs and continue to grow to thicken and bleed over the course of each menstrual cycle.
  • Another theory is the induction theory in which hormones or immune factors transform the peritoneal cells outside the uterus into cells that are similar to those lining the inside of the uterus, known as endometrial cells.
  • Transformation of embryonic cells into endometrial-like cells due to estrogen that gets implant during puberty.
  • Surgical scar implantation after various surgical procedures such as hysterectomy or C-section in which endometrial cells may attach to a surgical incision.

What are the symptoms of Endometriosis?

Symptoms of endometriosis include:

  • Severe menstrual cramps
  • Lower back pain
  • Pelvic pain
  • Periods last longer for more than 7 days
  • Heavy menstrual bleeding and the pad needs to change after every 1 to 2 hours
  • Bowel and urine related problems like pain, diarrhea, constipation, and bloating
  • Bleeding in stool and urine
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Spotting or bleeding between periods
  • Pain is the main symptom of endometriosis, but its severity of pain does not always correlate with the extent of disease.
  • Infertility, or being unable to get pregnant.
  • Digestive-related problems include- constipation, diarrhea, abdominal bloating, or nausea, especially during periods.
