Dementia is caused by damage to brain cells to or loss of these cells and their connections. These brain cells are unable to communicate with each other which then affects the feelings, behaviour, and thinking. The brain has different regions and is responsible for different functions like memory, judgment, and movement. When the nerve cells of a particular region are damaged it affects the functioning of that region.

For example, in Alzheimer’s disease there is a high level of certain proteins inside and outside brain cells that affects the brain cells make it hard to stay healthy and to communicate with each other.
