Patra Pinda Sweda – Patra means leaves of medicinal plants. Pinda means a bolus. Sweda means Fomentation or sudation. The swedana karma or sudation therapy which is given by using a bolus which is prepared by the different combination of medicinal leaves which is heated with medicinal oil along with the medicinal herbs is called as patra pinda sweda. Thus it constitutes both snehan and swedan.

Patra Pinda Sweda is a simple and effective therapy in the management of uncomplicated back pain severe. They are chopped into fine pieces and are fried with oils useful in relieving vata dosha, pain and associated conditions) along with other medicaments like pieces of lemon, gratings of coconut etc. Then they are tied in a cloth in the form of a bolus. With this, the medicated oil selected according to the disease is kept in a pan or in a vessel and heated on mild flame. Abhyangam (massage) for a few minutes with the oil is done. The bolus consisting of leaves and herbs is dipped in the heated oil and massaged on the affected area.

Duration of Patra Pinda Sweda

Patra Pinda SwedaIt is generally done for 45 minutes. If done with kati vasti or any other therapy, it is done for 10- 15 minutes. It can be done on whole body too.
